Open call: Guerrilla Art Park

An opportunity to exhibit on the site of our future arts campus

Oklahoma Contemporary is inviting artists to participate in our first installment of Guerrilla Art Park – an outdoor sculpture exhibition to take place near our Showroom at NW 11th and Broadway, on the site of our future arts campus.

We are accepting submissions now through the month of May, and planning to install in June — it’s going to be a lightning-fast operation, but we are excited to activate the space for all of our summer activities.

DETAILS
Up to seven works will be selected for display. Jurying the competition/exhibition will be a selection committee of local artists and curators and Oklahoma Contemporary’s visual arts staff.

Each artist selected for the exhibition will receive a $100 honorarium. Additionally, Oklahoma Contemporary will cover transportation in the Oklahoma City metro and assist with installation and de-installation of the sculpture. Oklahoma Contemporary will promote the exhibition, the artworks and artists on its website, through social media and to print, broadcast and online outlets.

Since the exhibition area is outdoors and open to the public, some common sense rules apply: Entries must be works that are already complete, freestanding and of sound, safe construction. Sculptures must be weatherproof and made of durable materials designed to withstand outdoor climate conditions. Resistance to high-speed winds is important (we are in Oklahoma, after all). The artist is responsible for stand or base if necessary. Absolutely no digging or ground submergence will be permitted.

Sculptures will be installed in June 2016 and be on view until after Labor Day. The artist must install the same sculpture(s) that was submitted for entry. Artists may sell the work during the project period, but the work must remain on site for the duration of the exhibition.

The Showroom at Oklahoma Contemporary, four repurposed shipping containers temporarily housing exhibitions, events and an art library, serves as the first step toward Oklahoma Contemporary’s future location. The 4.6-acre arts campus will be home to a new 50,000-square-foot building with exhibition, education and performance space, an industrial arts building, a three-block arts park and space for outdoor exhibitions, education programs and public performances.
